After her husband, Ryan’s, traumatic brain injury in the line of duty, he acquired aphasia as well as arm and leg weakness. Barb discusses Ryan’s rehabilitation process and how she came to choose intensive aphasia therapy at The Aphasia Center for Ryan’s speech treatment.
Ryan’s significant improvements in communication, spontaneous speech, confidence, and parenting abilities. Barb relates “That was another huge struggle, where you know Ryan would want to say something to our kids and whether it was “Hey come to dinner” or “Its time to get ready”. He just struggled with that because he was afraid that the wrong thing would come out or he wouldn’t find the words and he would just kind of stop”.
Other highlights of Barb’s experience include:
*Having a plan for continued progress after leaving the program.
*Highly recommending the aphasia program for its individualized care.
*Ryan regaining his personality and sense of humor after therapy.
